New York Summer Film Festival
This summer, a group of students at the New York center organized a Summer Film Festival on four Friday evenings. Their idea was to show films on topics of interest and concern to citizens of today, especially youth, and to follow each film with a discussion period.
The committee screened dozens of films and ultimately chose the following schedule:
  • July 15 Home
  • July 29 Food, Inc.
  • August 5 Flow
  • August 19 The 11th Hour
The films were promoted with a beautiful poster and flyer, with the message:

In town for summer weekends this year?
Come for free Friday evenings of thought-provoking films!
First up is "HOME" by Yann Arthus-Bertrand.
Through visually stunning aerial footage from over 50 countries, Yann Arthus-Bertrand shares his sense of awe about the planet and provides impetus to further the call to action to take care of our planet, our HOME.
For the last 10 years, all the work of Yann Arthus-Bertrand has been Carbon offset. All of the CO2 emissions engendered by the making of this film are calculated and offset by sums of money that are used to provide clean energy to those who don't have any.

The audiences were really involved with the information presented and moved by the images. We offered light refreshments, and people stayed afterwards and engaged in active question-asking and discussion.
We feel gratified that we spread awareness of and information about issues important to today's lives through our center.
