September Is National Preparedness Month
September is National Preparedness Month in the US. This nationwide campaign encourages Americans to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, and communities.
While the campaign is sponsored by the US government, as we all know, emergencies don't recognize national borders! North American Regional Headquarters is promoting National Preparedness Month throughout the region, in both the US and Canada.
This is the fourth year that Sukyo Mahikari of North America has registered as a coalition member of the National Preparedness Month campaign. The campaign's website, http://www.ready.gov/, contains checklists for preparing basic as well as more extensive emergency kits. There is also a tab on that website with information designed to help you make a plan for communicating with your family in times of emergency. Please be sure also to keep the phone numbers of your center and group coordinator in your communication plan. Here is a link for some useful information regarding preparedness in Canada: www.getprepared.gc.ca/.
August and September have already brought hurricanes, earthquakes, and tornadoes, and our region has already seen destruction from flooding, loss of power, and other effects. Please prepare your home, your car, and a go-bag. You can use the information that regional headquarters has sent to all centers and emergency preparedness coordinators.
We hope that all members will take some time during this month and regularly afterward to talk with their families and take actions together to prepare for emergencies at home, at work, and on the road.
Oshienushisama has repeatedly guided us to prepare for the unexpected. Let us "never forget the possibility of disaster even when times are calm" and do our best to be prepared.
Thank you very much.
