Ala Wai Canal Cleanup in Hawaii
On Sunday, April 17, 2011, from 10am to 12noon, members of the Hawaii center offered community service by cleaning the Ala Wai Canal in our neighborhood. The canal is a public waterway which flows from inland areas to the ocean. The canal and surrounding areas are often littered with trash.
The cleanup was a unified activity of the center and the youth group. Ten members participated, led by the youth group leader. We offered purification to the spiritual realm and then picked up trash along both sides of the canal. The group then walked back to the center together and enjoyed refreshments.
