Seattle Center Holds Two-Day Spiritual Development Seminar for Members

As this year marks the 50th anniversary of Sukyo Mahikari and the 35th anniversary of the North American Region, the Seattle center held a two-day spiritual development seminar for members June 27-28, 2009. The center was closed on those days as we met in front of the altar. We had the honor and privilege to have our North American Regional Director participate during the two days.

The seminar started with a study class by our regional director focusing on the Preface in the Book of Holy Words. The content of the study class reminded us of the painstaking efforts made by our founder and about our mission as members of Sukyo Mahikari.
A Light-giving session was held where guidance focused on concentrating when giving and receiving Light.
Then a panel discussion followed, consisting of members offering their experience stories, followed by questions by the other members and feedback and encouragement by the regional director and our center director. The experience stories by the members further reminded us how commitment and dedication allows arrangements from God to manifest without asking for them.
Later in the day, groups were formed, and each group was assigned certain areas of the center to clean. At the end of the first day, a barbeque was organized.
On the second day, we had a discussion session. Participants formed smaller groups to talk about the theme of how to become "true yokoshi"—this is what the acting Oshienushisama asked to become this year in his New Year's message. Each group decided on a certain goal, and each member resolved to put the goal into practice and achieve it as preparation for the special occasion of the 50th anniversary ceremony.
In the regional director's closing statement, he reminded us that a new beginning will start after the 50th anniversary ceremony, but our commitment to these goals does not finish after the ceremony is over.
Thanks to the efforts made by staff, support staff, and member participation, the two-day seminar was a great success and we are looking forward to more spiritual development activities in our center in the future.
